"The Speed Aperture Computer was the first device of its kind to enable changing the frame rate of the camera while providing automatic exposure compensation. It worked with most of the commonly used film cameras and lenses. It was recognized with a Technical Achievement award bu the Motion Picture Academy in 1985" (Howard Preston).
"The Speed Aperture Computer (SAC) allows the camera speed to be varied during filming while providing automatic exposure compensation. The SAC controls the film camera through Camera Interface Boxes. The main SAC unit controls camera speed in the range of 1 to 150 fps in 1 fps increments. All speeds are quartz locked. Digital readouts are provided for both footage and camera speed. Up to five speeds and four transition times may be programmed through the keyboard. The unit automatically calculates the correct transition times in terms of screen time - the lenght of time the transition will take place when the film is projected at 24 fps" (publicité Speed Aperture Computer, Santa Monica, Preston, s.d.)
