Donkey Skin, Demy and the Marvellous

Cinema is magic

For Jacques Demy, the little « Jacquot de Nantes », everything started from childhood. Cinema was seen as a dream in real life or a magical toy. At an early age, in his parents' attic, he was already painting stories on film (Le Pont de Mauves). Using a small amateur movie camera, he also animated characters in cardboard, shooting frame by frame. Attaque nocturne, which he made at 17, prolongs his wonder watching the puppet shows to which his mother took him.
