La devanture de l'appareil représente la façade de l'Egyptian Hall à Londres : "Exhibition. Mr Albert Smith's Ascent of Mont Blanc every evening at the Egyptian Hall Piccadilly. G.W.F. & W."
Albert Smith, célèbre conférencier, donne ses premiers spectacles sur le Mont Blanc, à L'Egyptian Hall de Londres, le 15 mars 1852 (jusqu'au 6 juillet 1858). Un chalet suisse était évoqué sur la scène, avec les drapeaux des différents cantons. Smith illustra ses conférences avec des tableaux transparents mobiles et à l'aide de la lanterne magique.
