Remarques

Marque : "Established 1816. J. W. Trade Mark. London made".

Ce "Perfect Projector Mechanism Model A" de John Wrench bénéficie du régulateur qui figure sur le Model AA et B ; pour autant, il s'agit bien du modèle A.

"Model A. Perfect Projector or P.P. Mechanism. The frame, with the bearings, is a fine iron casting, beautifully black enamelled. The bearings for the sprocket wheels are all drilled for oiling. The frame is attached to the baseboard by four iron bolts with steel nuts. Sprocket wheels : made of gun metal, highly polished and lacquered, the teeth being cut out of the same casting as the wheel. They are fixed by linch pins to the steel spindles. The bottom driving tooth wheel is 4 inches pitch diameter. To it is attached a chain tooth wheel 2 inches diameter. This is connected with a similar chain wheel, fixed at the outer end of the top sprocket spindle, by means of a steel link chain. The driving wheel is also provided with a V-shape pulley wheel for driving the spring band when re-winding the film. The two guide rollers are made of vulcanite, cleared in the centre, and fitted with cheeks. For keeping the film against the sprocket wheels there are two vulcanite rollers, cleared in the centre. Each is mounted in a brass frame, and works on a steel spindle firmly bolted to the frame and actuated by a steel spring. A brass stripper is provided to the bottom sprocket, in order to prevent the film from becoming wrapped round it, in case of breakage. The pinion and "Dog" spindle is cut out of one piece of steel. A large balance wheel, polished and lacquered, is attached to one end by a boss and set screw. The "Dog" is at the other end, and is made of a solid gun-metal casting, polished and lacquered, and cleared in the centre. The striking roller is made of vulcanite, cleared in the centre, and is mounted on a steel spindle. Between the bearing and the "Dog" there is a 1 inch diameter gun-metal mitre wheel fixed to its spindle. To the iron frame there is an iron bracket carrying a short reel spindle, in two bearings. At each end of this spindle is fitted a 1 in. mitre wheel. The lower one engages with the mitre wheel, already mentioned, attached to the "Dog" spindle, and the upper one engages with a similar mitre wheel fitted at the extreme end of the shutter spindle. Shutter : the steel spindle for driving the shutter is 5/16 inches diameter and 6 inches long : it is carried in two bearings on the iron frame. The outer end of the spindle is D-shape ; on this the shutter can be pushed along and clamped in any position to suit objectives of varying foci. The peculiar shape of the spindle mensures the shutter being replaced at the proper adjustment. The shutter is cut out of a solid piece of brass, and is bronzed and lacquered. In shape it is the segment of a circle with three narrow arms, connected together and accurately balanced by a small brass casting screwed to the edge. A long brass boss, polished and lacquered, is screwed to the centre, and is fitted with two set screws. Film trap : this is held to the frame by two steel screws which are provided with brass nuts for clamping the lantern objective arm in position. The front is fitted with two V-shape guides, in which a plate carrying the mask, cushion shape, with true cut edges, is worked by rack and pinion to the extent of 3/4 inches, or equivalent to one picture. The short rack is srewed to the plate itself. The sliding plate has a block at the top into which is screwed a D-shape steel rod, on which slides a brass collar, fitted with a milled head clamping nut, and provided with a brass flange, threated to take the cinematograph objective. The pinion is mounted in two stout bearings on the front, and is provided with a large brass milled head, polished and lacquered, the remainder of the front being bronzed and lacquered. Door of film trap : the door or gate is made of brass, bronzed and lacquered, and is hinged at the side of the trap in such a way that the humped runners are fully exposed to view when it is open. They can in consequence be readily cleaned when the occasion arises. Six steel bow springs of equal size are screwed to the door, and on the opposite side there is a rectangular heat shield, made of brass and asbestos. The door is kept firmly closed by means of two stout brass spring catches. Spool arms : the top arm is made of gun-metal bronzed and lacquered, and is cruciform in shape, thus making it light but at the same time exceptionally strong. Carrying spools up to 12 inches in diameter, it is swivelled to the frame, and can be clamped in any position by a steel binding screw with "tommy pins". When vertical, it can be locked in position by means of a catch on the frame. The steel spindle is fitted with a brass roller to prevent the spool from binding, and has a spiral steel spring, with metal disc, which works against the side of the spool. The outer end of the spindle is slotted to take a "drop" catch. The bottom arm is also made of gun-metal bronzed and lacquered, but in shape it is flat with a rib on the under side" (The Wrench Illustrated Catalogue of Optical Lanterns, London, Wrench, s.d., p. 150-151).
