"Amusement for winter evening. The magic lantern is a pleasing Family Amusement, well suited to all ages and sexes, ready in a few minutes for the enternainments of friends or family - in fact a chearful house should never be without one. J. Scott has prepared an extensive assortment. They are complete in boxes, each Lantern with twelve glass slides, on which are finely painted about sixty grotesque figures, which by reflection, are magnified from a miniature as large as nature, according to the size of the lanterns, and are well adapted for youth, at this season. Sold, complete, at 12 s. one guinea, one guinea and a half, and two guineas each ; also some very large and capital ; in various sizes, to twelve guineas each. Note. The whole of the subjects painted on the glasses, above the 12 s. are new, and in such variety as was never before offered to the public. Scott has a great variety of amusing articles - printed lists gratis, with their prices, sent by post to any part of the kingdom, in answer to letters post paid only - also at Scott' shop, n° 417, Strand, opposite the Adelphi. These Goods (carefully packed) sent on order to any part of the kingdom, on being paid for on delivery in London" (The Morning Chronicle, 3 janvier 1797).
