"Pettibone Manufacturing Company. American "Military and Society Goods" manufacturer who sold magic lanterns, in Cincinnati, Ohio. James Pettibone started as a clerk in John Boner's military goods store un Cincinnati in 1865. In 1872 he took over the company under his own name, and it continued at various Cincinnati addresses until at least 1897. Lee H. Brooks, President of Pettibone Company in 1896, was also president of the company which owned Coney Island. At that time the Pettibone Company was described as "the large establishment in which all kinds of paraphernalia for lodges, societies, schools, etc., are manufactured, and in which four hundred and fifty people are constantly employed". Goods sold included the Delineascope lantern and slides, and two versions of the spectacular "New Improved Sciopticon with Revolving Disc", in which a series of circular slides were sit in a large disc (or spoked wheel) forming an impressive display piece" (Stephen Herbert, Encyclopaedia of the Magic Lantern, Londres, Magic Lantern Society, 2001, p. 226-227).
