Bertrand Bonello, cinéaste
The films by Bertrand Bonello (born 1968), who directed Tiresia (2002) and De la guerre (2007) amongst others, constantly question the notions of identity, duality and appearance. Hair as material and the interplay of its colours are clearly precious elements in his musings.
In 2005, Bertrand Bonello responded to a brief: propose a cinematographic account of the work of a contemporary artist. His short Cindy: The Doll Is Mine is a free interpretation of the work of American photographer Cindy Sherman, known for her many self-portraits. The actress Asia Argento doubled up to incarnate both the brunette photographer and her model, whose blond wig calls to mind the character she played in The Stendhal Syndrome
