"Fort de son succès en caméras légères, Sony poursuivant son effort développe sa première caméra de studio. Basée sur des Plumbicons 2/3 pouce à déflexion électrostatique, elle sera la première caméra employant un séparateur optique à quatre prismes capable d'une très grande ouverture de F 1.2, offrant ainsi une sensibilité théorique égale ou supérieure aux grandes caméras équipées de tubes de 25 ou 30 mm. Mais le zoom qui aurait pu profiter de l'ouverture de F. 1.2 est si lourd et si cher que l'avantage disparaît" (Bernard Tichit).
"Following the considerable success of their portable cameras for ENG and EFP applications, and based upon the wealth of experience and expertise gained in broadcast equipment development, Sony Broadcast now introduces a camera system designed specifically for use in Studio and outside Broadcast application. The BVP-360P uses either 2/3 inch mixed field Saticon or Plumbicon Tubes which, in conjunction with a unique f 1.2 optical system and advanced video signal processing provides unrivalled picture quality. [...] Normally the camera head is supplied fitted with either 2/3 inch LOC Mixed Field Saticon or Plumbicon camera tubes. High resolution : in addition to the high performance of the Mixed Field camera tubes, the adoption of high field operation and Dynamic beam focussing techniques provides excellent centre and corner resolution. Digital Dynamic Registration Compensation : this provides extremely precise registration adjustment. Signal to noise radio : by employing the very latest technology in pre-pre-amplifier and video circuit design, an extremely high S/N ratio of 58dB has been achieved. Sharp, stable images : out of band aperture correction and in-band image enhancement contribute to the provision of clear, sharp, stable picture performance over a wide range of light conditions. Dynamic range : the BPV-360P has a remarkably high dynamic range, accepting up to 6 times normal light level. Sensitivity : refinements in the design of camera optical systems have enabled the realisation of a prism with a sensitivity of f 1.2 for use in the BVP-360P. Coupled with an f. 1.2 lens, the minimum illumination level can be as low as 10 lux using maximum gain".
