Remarques

Marques : "Dolby Stereo Optical Sound Processor Model CP50 Dolby Laboratories Inc." ; "Model CP50 A1PM 1590 Dolby Laboratories Inc. Made in England".

"CP 50. The new Model CP 50 is entended for the reproduction of all optical soundtrack formats, Dolby encoded and conventional, mono and stereo. The unit is designed to interface with an existing fader and magnetic stereo installation. A wide range of accessories is available" (EBU Review, décembre 1979).

"The Dolby CP50 is a high-performance sound processor designed to update mono or 35 mm magnetic stereo theatres for the wide-range stereo reproduction of 35 mm Dolby Stereo optical releases. In one compact and easy-to-operate unit, the CP50 provides everything necessary to process Dolby Stereo sound-tracks in exactly the way they were recorded, without compromise. Its performance as identical to that of the more costly and elaborate Dolby processors, such as the Dolby CP100, which differ from the CP50 only in their ability to process 70 mm magnetic prints and non-sync sources, as well as 35 mm stereo optical. (While the CP50 will not process magnetic tracks or non-sync, it permits their conventional reproduction in theatres so equipped). The CP50 is inserted into the theatre sound system between the outputs of the projector sound-heads (fitted with stereo solar cells available from Dolby Laboratories) and the inputs to the main fader. The audio signals from the sound-heads are processed by the CP50 on their way to the theatre's power amplifiers and loudspeakers (not provided by Dolby Laboratories). The CP50 features optical preamplifiers with variable slit loss correction for flat, wide-range response from virtually any type of optical sound-head ; Dolby noise reduction for the precise decoding of Dolby encoded sound-tracks ; sophisticated center channel derivation circuitry, and for theatres so equipped, decoding/processing circuitry for a fourth, surround channel ; and 27-band, third-octave equalizers for smooth, wide response from the loudspeakers behind the screen. When properly installed, a theatre sound system incorporating the Dolby CP50 can meet the new international playback standard for wide-range film sound reproduction, ISO 2969, the same characteristic provided in the dubbing theatres used to mix all Dolby Stereo films. In spite of its sophistication, the CP50's operation is simplicity itself for the projectionnist. All adjustements required to optimize the theatre sound system, including maximizing sound-head and loudspeaker performance, are made in advance by the installer. Thereafter in day-to-day use, the projectionnist merely selects the sound format for the film being played by pushing the appropriate clearly-marked switches (Dolby encoded/conventional, mono/stereo, with/without surround, etc.)" (Notice Dolby Stereo Optical Sound Processor Model CP50, Dolby, USA, 1979).
